Busy Weekend Part 2 (Saturday)

I know I don't have a lot of people reading this, but I'm sure the few that do know how hard it is to get simple things done (like this blog) when you've got little ones at home needing attention all day. Plus Travis has been working nights this week so during the day when I usually have a few minutes to do things when the kiddos are napping, he's here and wants attention... I know I should be in bed by now, it's late and we have an early morning, but Chloe and Vance are asleep, and I need to stop procrastinating...

Saturday's Poteet Strawberry Festival:

We got off to a slow start and didn't get to the festival 'til after 2pm :(. But we didn't miss a whole lot considering all Chloe really wanted to do was go on rides. It was super windy and it made for a very difficult day to be out with Vance in the stroller. We had to keep a blanket over the stroller pretty much the whole time because there was sand being kicked up all around us. So we went on some rides, played a few games, and we ate some Poteet strawberries that were probably the best strawberries I've ever had. Later in the evening we had met up with my cousin Scott and his wife Anna, who are the first family on my side (besides my parents and sister) to see Vance. I was nice to see them again... ;)

Vance was super adorable in his strawberry onesie, and gave me his typical "what are you doing, Mom?" look when I took his picture.

Busy Weekend Part 1 (Friday)

I'm finaly getting some time between feedings and cleaning to get this post in. It'll probably be a long one but here it goes...

First off, Fridays projects: Chloe and I decided to try some simple Sharpie tie-dye and here's the 'how-to' if you're interested...

Supplies:
Sharpie pens various colors
Rubbing alcohol
Rubber bands or hair elastics
T-shirt
Kool-Aid (for drinking ;) )

Step #1: Take your shirt and wrap the rubber bands around it traditional tie-dye style.
Step #2: Pick your colors and color each section with as much color as you can.

Step #3: Hang it up outside or if you live in an apartment you can hang it above a bucket you dont mind staining.
Step #4: Slowly pour the alcohol from the top of the shirt then alternate sides at the tops of the bands.

**Do this until you get your desired "bleed", this is entirely up to you! The excess alcohol will drip off, hence the need to do this outside or with a bucket. ;)







Step #5: Allow to dry completely! Then use a blowdryer, iron, or hot dryer to set the colors.

** COLORS WILL MOST LIKELY BLEED A LITTLE THE FIRST TIME WASHED! SO WASH IT BY ITSELF!**

The pinkish shirt is the one Chloe made, and I made the onesie for Vance. They turned out pretty good don't ya think? And of Chloe had a blast ;)

Later that night I decided to play around with this 'faux tie-dye' and made this little cutie for Vance to wear tomorrow at the Poteet Strawberry Festival!

Vance Update...

On Thursday Vance had his 'two month' check up and shots. He is now 9 lbs and 22.5 inches. He got 3 shots in the legs and an oral vaccine. The poor little guy turned purple crying so hard from the shots :(. It made me want to cry too. I talked to the Dr. about his lack of interest in breast feading and us having to supplement with formula ( I hate having to do this). Doc says he's in the 3rd percentile, and is underweight, and he knows a lot of that has to do with his bad reflux, but he wants him to stay on his Axid medication for that and to try a new formula that'll help get his weight up. Since Thursday Vance has been noticably happier, and sleeps longer during the night. I like that this formula is working, but I still hate the fact that it feels like my milk wasn't good enough for him :(. Everyone keeps telling me that sometimes this just happens, and I shouldn't take it personally, but how can I not?

Easter Weekend...

We went out to my folks' place for Easter weekend, Chloe was with her mom though :(. My mom outdid herself again with the lunch, the deserts especially. She made lemon meringue and banana cream pies from scratch... YUMMY! ;) After lunch Travis and my Brother-in-law, Wayne went out to hide the eggs for my nieces.

 

 

Shortly after we came inside from "the hunt" and the girls stopped screeching about how much candy the Easter Bunny brought them, Vance had started crying, even though he had just been fed about an hour before. So I go over to his bouncy where he had been sleeping, and started to unfasten him so I could check his 'filter' and hold him... As I unbuckle the harness I find a pink and purple plastic Easter egg laying between his legs (odd). Travis came rushing over going "what's that? what's that?" I had no idea what he was up to, I was hoping it wasn't chocolate, Vance would have melted it. By now my sister is also hovering over me acting all excited, I thought these two had gone mental, but as I opened the little plastic egg, I saw this little beauty inside... (I use the word 'little' loosely, lol)

Who knew our baby boy could lay eggs with diamonds in them?!? LOL

Well obviously I said "YES!", we kissed, and my dad said "get a room!" Haha, silly old man ;)

New Project...

So yesterday I started a new project, it's a messenger bag made from bandannas. I decided to take it a step further (or harder) and quilt/patchwork the outside. So far this thing has been easy for me but apparently hard on my sewing machine. I've broken 3 needles, and I'm not even working with thick fabric. Now before I can continue I have to go get some tougher needles.

I'll be posting pictures and a "how-to DIY" once I'm done. I would recommend that you just pick out some fabric that you really like instead of using the bandannas, but I already had them and figured I'd do my test run of the pattern with them so I really wasn't wasting any money, and if it doesn't turn out all that great, Chloe will get a "play purse" to have fun with and carry her toys in.
